Sip of the Month: Press for Champagne

Sip of the Month: Press for Champagne

Some people visit London for the history.

Some go for the theatre, the shopping or afternoon tea.

Helene goes for the Champagne button.

Tucked away in Soho, Bob Bob Ricard is known for its glamorous interiors, British and French menu and the small button found at every table:

Press for Champagne

It is one of Helene’s favourite places to visit in London and yes, she presses the button.

Wouldn’t you?

The Recipe

This month, we are keeping things beautifully simple.

You will need

  • One bottle of Champagne

  • A Champagne glass

  • Something worth celebrating

To make it

Chill the Champagne.

Open carefully.

Pour.

If only every kitchen came with a button.

Champagne or Sparkling Wine?

True Champagne comes from the Champagne region of France, but a good quality dry sparkling wine can be just as enjoyable.

Look for a Brut if you prefer something crisp and not overly sweet. A Crémant, Cava or Canadian traditional method sparkling wine will also work beautifully.

The important thing is that it is properly chilled, served with people you enjoy and poured before anyone begins taking life too seriously.

What to Serve With It

Champagne has a glamorous reputation, but it is remarkably easygoing when it comes to food.

Try it with:

  • Potato chips: The ultimate salty crunch.

  • Fresh oysters: A classic pairing for good reason.

  • Fried chicken: The bubbles balance the crispy richness beautifully.

  • Tuna tartare: Clean, elegant and refreshing.

  • Buttered popcorn: Movie night meets luxury.

  • Aged Comté: The Champagne complements its wonderfully nutty flavour.

  • Mac and cheese: Crisp acidity cuts through all that rich, gooey cheese.

  • Truffle fries: High low luxury at its very best.

  • Tacos: Bright bubbles are delicious with salty, spicy flavours.

Oysters or potato chips?

We say both.

Cheers to London, travelling well and always knowing when to press for Champagne.
