Handcrafted in Japan from a vintage 100% silk fukuro obi, the bag features an intricate kikkō, or tortoiseshell, composition framing crest-like motifs in ivory, luminous gold, vivid vermilion, black and touches of blue.

The clean, structured silhouette allows the woven pattern, rich colour and metallic detailing to remain the focus. Full firm interfacing and an inserted base help the bag retain its shape, while unused silk obijime cords create elegant, textural handles.

The interior is lined with silk from the reverse of the same vintage obi. A coordinating silk pocket keeps a phone, cards and smaller essentials easily accessible.

The original pattern was carefully positioned for this individual bag. Because the vintage textile and its exact placement cannot be reproduced, only one is available.

Kikkō is a traditional Japanese hexagonal pattern inspired by the shape of a tortoise shell and associated with longevity. In this textile, the geometric framework surrounds crest-like motifs, creating a striking balance of symbolism, structure and colour. About the maker
Ayako, a couture sample seamstress with more than 40 years of experience, leads the making. Yuko, trained in kimono and luxury fur tailoring, advises on the careful handling of the vintage textile. Founder Ayuko translates this traditional artisanal knowledge into a clean, structured design for contemporary use. The result is a singular piece that preserves the character of vintage Japanese silk while giving it a modern life.
